Where are you from?
I grew up in Annisse, a small village close to Helsinge in Northern Sealand. I studied one year at Roskilde University Center (RUC) before transferring to University of Maryland.
How long have you been in the United States?
I have lived here permanently since 1991.
What brought you to the United States?
I took one year off school after Gymnasium to work on a large horse farm south of Annapolis, MD. After returning to Denmark and completing my first year at RUC I transferred to the University of Maryland Agronomy Program.
What is your occupation?
I am currently working from home as the Maryland Coordinator for EurAuPair Intercultural Childcare, and taking care of my two children, Steffen and Maia.
What do you like most about the Danish Club of Washington?
The opportunity to socialize with other Danes and have my children meet other children of Danish decent.
How long have you been an officer of the club and what positions have
you held?
I have only just started as second Vice President.
What year did you join the club?
About five years ago.
What is your favorite event sponsored by the club and why?
St. Hans and the Family Dinners. St. Hans because of the beautiful setting for the picnic and bonfire which the children love (we do both snobroed and marshmellows!). The Family Dinners because the kids are busy playing while the adults can catch up with eachother over coffee after the dinner.
What is your favorite Danish Food?
There are so many.. Hotdog with roed poelse, remolade, raw onions, pickled cucumbers, etc; old stinky wet cheese on rugbroed with sky; dyrlaegens natmad (leverpostej, sky, and saltkoed); karry- og kryddersild, freshly smoked heering with raw onion, egg yolk and chives - I could go on, but I am getting too hungry.....
